The Stories In Between (2015) began in 2014 at Acton Central Station Book Swap with a chance conversation over Heinrich Boll’s The Clown. It is a project about community sharing, evidence of migration both of the books themselves but also of the unknown lives of those who have recycled them in the first place. Amanda is concerned with the duality of the stories and rare sense of positive global community that they reflect. The books selected from the worn, weather exposed, bookcase were brought back and re-shelved indoors and photographed on black and white film. The grainy finish just emphasises the subjects used and imperfect states. Most of the books contain some inner dialogue whether simple hand written names, dates, letters, library catalogue slips - stamped withdrawn from stock - and even an old postcard. This additional dimension provides opportunities for the viewer / reader to create their own stories. As well as taking images of the books, various details from their interiors were scanned and included with the project. Her continuing swapping of books still engenders occasional feelings of nostalgia and stimulates new imagined journeys.
